Happy Birthday to D.J. Skelton, one of the founding members of Paradox Sports! Capt. D.J. Skelton was stationed in Fallujah, Iraq when he was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in 2004. While in recovery, he founded Paradox Sports, completed a fellowship at Harvard, wrote a caretaker’s guidebook for wounded service members and served as military adviser to then-Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England. Seven years and sixty surgeries later, Skelton became the Army’s most seriously wounded soldier to return to combat command when he rejoined his old unit in Afghanistan in 2011 – the same year that Esquire named him one of its “Patriots of the Year.” Here, Skelton (on right) stands at the summit of Half Dome, an iconic wall in Yosemite National Park, to commemorate Sept. 11 with Paradox Sports and
29 other wounded veterans.
