Adaptive Climbing Initiative Course

at Shawangunks, NY

Cost: $125

The Adaptive Climbing Initiative is an invitation to all of us to rethink what is possible. The Outdoor ACI trainings are generously sponsored by The North Face.

Paradox Sports is the national leader in adaptive climbing and we are offering a new program format – outdoors! The Adaptive Climbing Initiative Course is intended for climbing facilitators, guides and instructors who seek to help people of all abilities climb.

This new Outdoor Adaptive Climbing Initiative Course at Staunton State Park is designed to prepare leaders in the climbing industry with the “tool-kit” necessary to accommodate climbers of any and all abilities in their programs or guide schools. This comprehensive training program will cover the diversity of disability, etiquette, health concerns, technical systems for adaptation, and site and risk management in a single pitch outdoor environment. The expert anecdotes and lessons provided serve adaptive athletes, climbing wall instructors, outdoor guides, physical therapists, and well-being advocates of all types.

Participants should have basic climbing skills and be looking to take the next step in their development of the sport. The focus will be anchor building, and single-pitch top roping with a focus on adaptive sports etiquette and climbing systems. Group size will be limited to 10 in order to stay within the guidelines of the Paradox Sports Covid-19 Health & Safety Plan. The course will be held outdoors. Participants are responsible for bringing their own food and lodging. Prepare for all weather conditions and clothing should be suitable to on-the-wall learning.

Spaces are limited. Registration is required.
